As a leading specialist recruitment agency, Paramount understands the importance of getting the right people in the right jobs to maximise the success of a business. These principles are equally as applicable to Paramount’s own operations, and over the last 17 years owners Daniel and Eugene have established a culture which values a job well done, encourages development and rewards success. Here, we take a closer look at what its like to be part of the Paramount team.
When you first meet the team at the Birmingham, UK head office, it’s clear to see that there is no such thing as a typical Paramount employee. Some arrived with a degree education (in everything from psychology to illustration to animal science) and some came armed with work experience and a desire to learn. While their respective journeys may have started very differently, their paths are now unmistakably intertwined with the same passion for recruitment and life sciences, and a joy and enthusiasm for working for Paramount.
Senior Associate Director James Luterbacher joined Paramount in 2014 as a resourcer and is now leading the agency’s healthcare communications activities in the USA, helping to establish Paramount as a global brand. He puts his success down to working in a strong market, having the drive to succeed and building a solid knowledge of his sector. James says:
“The key markets that we focus on are always looking for ways to expand and with the tools we have as recruiters for Paramount, it really is down to yourself and the drive you have to capitalise on the opportunities. I think you have to be persistent, meticulous with your approach and you have to be very knowledgeable, not just about the different agencies but about what is happening in the market too.”
“I genuinely have a real passion for my market so helping some of my favourite clients expand their teams and impact the healthcare industry globally is something that I really thrive on.”
Principal Consultant Jade Page and Senior Consultant Jessica Guyon also started out as resourcers and have since moved on up at Paramount – even with career breaks. Jade took an 18-month sabbatical to see the world and worked remotely for Paramount from Australia for the last three months of her travels; Jessica took some time out to start a family, and now works part time. Opportunities to progress at Paramount are not measured by hours in the office, but by the effort put in while you are there.
Aside from promotional opportunities, there’s lots more that people like about working at the agency. Jade and the team value the generous incentives and commission they earn on top of their salary and Jessica enjoys the freedom of autonomously managing her own work load. And everyone loves the industries they get to work with as ultimately has an impact on patients and the wider healthcare sector.
For Senior Principal Consultant Richard Maxwell, there’s lots to love about Paramount and after spending some time away, he sees the agency with a fresh perspective. Richard initially worked for Paramount for a couple of years in 2007, before spreading his wings to work for other recruitment companies and returning in 2016. Richard says:
“I worked for some other recruitment companies – including big and small companies – but none of them showed any ambition to develop my sector, so didn’t give me the resources I needed to recruit.
“That experience gave me a new perspective on the things that I loved about working for Paramount – we have great resources here such as Linked In Recruiter and specialist job boards, we get to work in an interesting and lucrative sector, plus I have a very understanding manager who really tries to understand the challenges I am up against and helps me overcome them. I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else now.”
Everyone we spoke to for this article had nothing but positive feedback for their co-workers too – something perhaps you wouldn’t expect from a recruitment agency. For a culture where performance is rewarded, there’s certainly no competitive dog-eat-dog mentality – only mutual respect and support, which is undoubtedly what puts Paramount above its rivals and helps its employees rise to their potential.
Interested in becoming part of the team? Thanks to continued increase in business, we are looking to take on several new team members in the first half of 2020.
