With working from home becoming an essential means for many employees and organisations, we have put together a series of top tips to help you remain productive whilst looking after your physical and emotional wellbeing.
Define your workspace
Opt for a designated workspace away from areas associated with leisure as this will get you into the right frame of mind. You should set up your workspace just as it would be in the office to eliminate distractions and ensure productivity.
Stick to a schedule
Working from home does not mean working 24/7. Try to go through your day as if you were going into the office. Be sure to switch off at a reasonable time, connect with friends or family and treat yourself after the ‘working day’ to your favourite TV show or movie. Keeping your routine intact will allow for a good work-life balance.
Get some fresh air
It can be easy to be cooped up at home and not realise the impact it’s having on your mood and wellbeing. Schedule in regular breaks for exercise or even a walk as a change of scenery will be beneficial. Why not use that time you would be commuting in the morning as your scheduled exercise time.
Use the 20-20-20 rule
The 20-20-20 rule recommended by the American Academy of Ophthalmology advises this every 20 minutes you should look away from your screen and focus your eyes on something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Try it! (Read more about this)
Stay connected
Advances in technology have enabled us to be in constant communication with others online. The most innovative companies will utilise these platforms effectively and keep their teams engaged. Set up daily video calls with your colleagues where you can discuss your activities or progress and even anything that’s not work related.
Ask for help
Let’s face it, business is not as usual at the moment. This is a very uncertain time for all of us so don’t be afraid to ask for support when you need it. Your managers, HR and colleagues are all there to help you during these periods.
