Computational Chemist – Cambridge

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Computational Chemist to join an innovative biopharmaceutical company based in Cambridge. This small, well-funded biotech are focused on the development next-generation small molecule therapeutics. Their unique platform has the potential to advance therapies for previously undruggable targets and has resulted in exciting collaborations with big pharma.

As a Senior Computational Chemist, you will report to the Director of Computational Sciences. The primary focus of this role will be the application of computational chemistry to accelerate internal drug discovery programs, and the computational development of the company’s discovery platform.

Key responsibilities:

• Design molecules with improved potency, selectivity, functional activity and ADME/Tox profiles.
• Apply a full range of computational chemistry and cheminformatics methods: docking, covalent docking, quantum mechanics, structure and ligand-based virtual screens, molecular dynamics, library design, protein modelling etc
• Apply data science / analysis techniques and/or ML algorithms for extracting information from datasets, build predictive models for biological activities and compound properties
•  Evaluate and apply new computational methods to drug discovery workflows
• Work collaboratively with external partners and CROs.  

Experience:

• PhD in computational chemistry / cheminformatics
• A couple of relevant years industry or post-doctoral experience would be well regarded but is not essential
• Experience in small molecule ligand-based and structure-based design, covalent compound design, virtual screening, quantum mechanical techniques and molecular dynamics.
• Familiarity with data analysis and data visualization (data science) in a drug discovery environment.
• Familiarity with cheminformatics toolkits, computer programming and scripting languages (Python and Bash).
