Medical communications – sometimes shortened to Med Comms – is an umbrella term which applies to a cross section of jobs.

To ensure they have a good grasp on the content they are writing, medical writers tend to have a PhD in a science or relevant experience in a similar role.
Editorial Managers or Directors in medical communications agencies are usually more senior, and have experience in medical writing as well as proofing and editing copy for publication.
Medical Editors work closely with medical writers to ensure the content is clear and precise.
Starting salaries in medical communications range from £26,000 for an entry level medical writer, to £75,000 and beyond for an editorial director. Account management salaries start at £22,000 for account executives and can go up to £55-60,000+ for senior account directors depending on experience.
